When danger approaches, the frog hides at the bottom of the pond, where it can be without air for a long time. Therefore, they always live in humid places, close to the ditches: in order to hide and, most importantly, lay eggs in the water.
This is how the frog’s body transforms from eggs through a tadpole to an adult animal. First, the hind legs appear, then the front legs, the lungs gradually form, and the gills disappear.
Newts
The appearance of adults is very different from the appearance of frogs. However, when the triton and frog tadpoles are still small, they are almost indistinguishable.
Toad
Toad is also born in water from eggs. Then it goes through the tadpole stage. Adult toad can go far from the reservoir and returns to it, only to lay eggs. It is not so beautiful, but it is very useful for agriculture! For example, in gardens, the toad destroys many insects that damage plants.
In winter, amphibians burrow into silt or rotten leaves and sleep until spring. Since there are no insects in winter, they have nothing to eat at this time of year.
Other species
When we think of amphibians, frogs and toads come to mind. And yet there are many other very different types of amphibians. There are frogs of unusually beautiful flowers, some of them are very poisonous. One of the most interesting species of amphibians is Proteus, which lives in a cave in the dark.
He is blind and his skin is white. He never sees the sun.
