During heavy rains, puddles quickly form on the ground. The people have a sign that if bubbles appear on puddles, then it will rain for a long time, and their absence indicates its imminent cessation. But is it really so?
Why is it raining?
In the afternoon, when the sun's rays fall on the seas, oceans and other water bodies, water gradually evaporates from their surface. Particles of steam are picked up by hot air and rise up until they collide with the cold, located in the upper layers of the atmosphere.
Interesting fact: During rains, approximately 520 trillion tons of water falls to the ground during the year.
Vapors remain at the border of cold and hot air and begin to move due to wind. Gradually, moisture particles pile up in a pile, forming clouds. As soon as the number of particles becomes too large, they form droplets. Those at the top of the cloud freeze and fall down. During the flight, ice particles pass through the air at positive temperature and melt. They land on the ground already in the form of drops. As soon as there are no frozen water particles in the cloud whose weight is enough to overcome air currents, the rain stops.
Is it true that the bubbles in the puddle - to a long rain?
Not really. For bubbles to appear on the puddles, the raindrops must be large. There should also be no wind. When a drop falls on the surface of the liquid, it pushes it and creates a hole. The latter immediately disappears, as water tends to take its former form, but because air has already entered the recess, a bubble is forming. Due to the lack of wind, the transparent ball does not burst immediately, but exists for some time.
As it rains in large drops, the cloud will quickly run out of fluid. And due to the lack of wind, another cloud will not “fly” to replace it. Therefore, the bubbles in the puddle more likely signal an early end to the rain, because showers, in principle, do not go for long. Exceptions are during the rainy seasons in tropical lands and in the presence of very large clouds.
Bubbles in puddles are more likely to mean an end to rain soon. They appear only during showers, since smaller drops do not hit the liquid with such force that a bubble forms. And as you know, during a rainstorm, a rain cloud quickly expends its rainfall, and accordingly, it does not rain for a long time.
