Sharks can be found in any ocean, in all the seas of the world and even in some rivers. Some representatives of the species swim at a depth of more than two kilometers.
Thanks to fiction books and films, such sharks as white, tiger and hammerhead sharks have gained popularity. However, there are those about which not much is known, because they are rare. Here are some of these amazing sharks.
Pygmy Shark (Dwarf)
Pygmy shark (dwarf) is the smallest member of the family. Its length, reaches up to 20-25 centimeters, is painted black. It lives in the warm waters of two oceans - Indian and Pacific. You can meet her only far from the coast. It is deep under water during the day, and at night it rises closer to the surface of the water. Pygmy shark diets are cephalopods squid. It is ovoviviparous, and the length of small sharks reaches up to 6 centimeters. The lower part of the body is covered with photophores - these are the organs through which it glows. Once there was a case when at night the sailors saw this fish at a distance of 15 meters.
Black-headed shark
The black-headed shark is one of the oldest and rarest fish. Some call it the "living fossil" and the "king of the underwater world." It lives mainly in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean at a depth of up to 1570 meters. Outwardly, a shark-like shark resembles an eel or a sea snake. It reaches up to two meters in length and has a brown color.Single fin tail fin. The mouth of this fish is located on the end of the snout.
There are about 300 teeth in the jaw. They are hooked and sharp, somewhat like a crown. It feeds on cephalopods, small bony fishes. During the hunt, this shark bends its body, and then shoots forward. Even large prey is swallowed whole.
An interesting fact is that her pregnancy lasts up to 3.5 years. Carnival sharks are poorly understood to date.. Only in a few cases did she manage to get her alive out of the water. One of the last recorded cases occurred in 2007 near Japan. It was discovered by a fisherman on the surface of the water. But, unfortunately, she was sick and died a few hours later.
One of the rarest species of shark is the pelagic longhorn. This is the only species in its family. It was first seen in 1976, near the island of Oahu. This fish was caught by an American research vessel. Having a large size, the shark has long coexisted with people incognito. It is possible that the locals perceived her as a sea monster, which formed the basis of some legends.
In 2004, a female 5.6 meters long was found on the coast near the city of Itihara (Japan). This was the largest representative of her kind, which she was able to see. By January 2015, only 60 individuals were found, which makes it not only rare, but also a little-studied shark.
Bolsherot lives up to its name. This fish has a disproportionately large head and a huge mouth. The back is dark gray in color and the ventral part is light. Despite its impressive size, the shark eats zooplankton - a shallow aquatic creature. The habitat of the latitude is difficult to determine, but most often it was found off the coast of California and Japan. During the day it sinks to a depth of 120-160 meters, and at night it rises to 12 meters to the surface of the water.
Since the pelagic large-mouthed shark represents a planktonivorous predator, it does not pose a threat to humans. Unfortunately, some sharks become rare and end up in the Red Book.
