Tuesday is the second day of the week, and it is quite natural that it was from this that its name came from. In a number of countries, especially in Europe, this day is considered the third, because the bill comes from Sunday, but for the Russian tradition, and for most Slavic countries this is not relevant, because the days are counted from Monday, and Wednesday is the third day.
This name of the day of the week in an interesting way demonstrates the former unity of all the tribes of the Slavs, as well as the unity of the parent language. Indeed, today the root “second” and the corresponding numeral “second” in a number of Slavic languages have disappeared. These words are not in Ukrainian, nor in Croatian. Here, the root “friend” came to replace “second”, similar to the concept of “other” in Russian. But the second day of the week retained its historical name, remaining "second-hand", "second-hand". So both this concept and the modern system of seven days of the week are a product of very ancient times, a very old tradition.
Happy or not happy day?
Having understood the origin of the name, you need to consider other points. Certain superstitions are associated with each day of the week; for many days they are considered happy or unhappy. So what about Tuesday?
In European tradition, this day is considered unfortunate, and the Spaniards equate it with Friday. If Tuesday is also the 13th, the Spaniards are careful, literally like we are on Friday, the 13th. This day was considered unfortunate in ancient times. Many peoples believe that on this day it is impossible to start new things, get married, make sacrifices to the gods.
However, in Russia, and in the Slavic world in its overwhelming majority, this day, on the contrary, is considered successful, and it is recommended for starting new business, major projects. If the Spaniards avoid weddings on Tuesday, then in Russia they even recommend them, believing that they promise prosperity in the family and happiness in married life in general.
Who is the day dedicated to?
If in the Slavic tradition this day is named simply on behalf of the numeral, then in other cultures everything is somewhat different. In ancient culture, the second day of the week was dedicated to the god of war, Mars from the Romans or Ares from the Greeks. The idea of the week was formed precisely in ancient times, and it was then that it became customary to divide the time into daily segments of seven pieces “in the set”, obviously focusing on 7 planets known at that time.
And all languages that are based on Latin, and this is primarily French, Italian or Spanish, have the name Tuesday associated with Mars - Dies Martis. However, with more northern languages, things are somewhat different.
If we take the same Norwegian, English and others, then we can see the appeal already to the local god of war - Thor, Tiu, Teivazu. Hence the “tuesday," the day of Thues, as they call this day of the week in the northern regions of Europe.
Mars is the god of war, and the element of fire is associated with it.Surprisingly, in those far from the ancient Japanese culture and the Mediterranean basin, the second day of the week is associated with the fiery element. And in Thailand and India this day is considered to be “red”, and it is also dedicated to the planet Mars and the local god of war, of course. Surprisingly, some views are relevant for the entire planet at once, in fact for its entire population, and the concept of Tuesday is just one of these key points. A radically different perception of it is observed only among the Slavs, but it is rather a Christian tradition, and if you dig deeper into pagan roots, then again you can find something similar. In some matters, the whole world expresses a single opinion.
How to perceive Tuesday?
One can debate for a long time about who is right and whether Tuesday is a “bad” or a “good” day. But you can look deeper - since there are such concepts that unite the whole world from Japan to Great Britain, from the Ancient World to the present day - it means that mankind is truly united in its origin and in its original worldviews.
All people are brothers, and upon closer examination, there is not much difference in different nations or in their worldviews. And Tuesday is just the day of the week that everyone has to face 4-5 times a month, and you should not build superstitions around him.
